    FORAY 4 - "GHOSTS"

    19.45, same day as end of F#3. Sue Kirk leaves Centre Point. She is

    wearing a coat and has an umbrella, because its January and its cold

    and its raining. She has a slimline executive briefcase. She crosses

    Oxford Street and walks along the streets up towards Telecom Tower,

    passing wine bars etc, until she ducks into the passageway leading to

    Colville Mews. She enters 17a. Picks up letter, puts on coffee table

    with briefcase.

 

    Takes off her coat, shes wearing the outfit as described in F#3. She

    lights a fire thats been set by her "daily", draws the curtains, takes

    off her tie and loosens a couple of buttons on her shirt, kicks off

    her shoes, puts a tape in the stereo - Vivaldi - Flute Concerto

    "La Notte".

 

    Picks up a framed photograph, Stephen Tyler, at a polo match, looking

    very Steve McQueen... she strokes his face in the picture. Memories of

    Paris, baking bread and Gauloise, rain in the chestnut trees... Enters

    kitchen, pours glass of wine, goes upstairs with wine and picture.

    Enters bathroom, starts water running, enters bedroom tosses

    photograph onto bed - duvet, neatly spread and folded open. Takes off

    jacket, skirt and shirt, revealing expensive silk outfit, this is one

    very sensuous woman!

 

    50 minutes later, Sue in bedroom tying cord of Japanese silk kimono,

    black with fire-breathing dragon on back. Duvet on bed is rumpled,

    pillows have moved. Her hair is wet.

 

    Downstairs, puts photo back, pops M&S seafood pasta into microwave,

    changes tape - Dan Fogelberg "Innocent age", pours glass of wine,

    plays telephone answer machine messages - Nigel Frobisher of Merrill

    Lynch, can they do lunch? Her mother - younger sister Jenny in trouble

    at school, could Sue phone the headmistress?

 

    Gets pasta from microwave, sits on couch with feet up, eats from

    plastic tray with a fork, wine on coffee table. Opens letter - an

    offer from a recruitment agency.....

 

    Finishes meal, opens briefcase takes out three slim folders, opens one

    - she cannot concentrate. Memories intrude, of Sir Edward, looking

    like Stewart Grainger, remembers he once described Foray as "an

    honorable man".... pictures Foray.. Did you kill them? Can I work with

    you?

 

    Stands, throws plastic tray away, pours third glass of wine, turns

    tape off, stands staring into fire, one hand at her throat....

    smiles.., loads new tape - Billy Joel, "An innocent Man". Tears up

    agency letter, sits, opens folder and begins to read......

 

    Next morning, Sue arrives at her office 8.15, Linda Dalston is already

    there, Sue says can Mr. Foray please pop in and see her as soon as he

    arrives - Linda says the night security man left a message - Mr. Foray

    called, he left on the 7.00 Concorde for New York.....
